The funeral for the oldest son of Vice President Joe Biden, Beau Biden, took place on Saturday at St. Anthony of Padua church in Wilmington, DE. The former attorney general of Delaware died on May 30, 2015 after a 2-year battle with brain cancer. The sadness shared by all who attended was palpable. One reporter, who was part of the presidential reporting pool, wrote that every journalist sitting in a row at the back of the church shed a tear at some point during the mass.
Google + says President Obama delivered a heartfelt eulogy focusing on Biden’s love of family and service to his country, choking up at times as he spoke. He said, “Beau Biden made you want to be a better person.” Joe Biden and the president hugged when the president stepped down from the podium.
Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, offered to sing at the service after he learned that Beau Biden was a huge fan of the group. He sang and played an acoustic rendition of “Til Kingdom Come.”
Over 1,000 mourners attended the funeral. Among them were President Clinton, Sec. Hillary Clinton and other notable political figures.
